    Palmetto Dunes is a world-class vacation resort with private residences. Developed in 1967, this plantation borders the Atlantic Ocean and is located directly across from Shelter Cove Harbour. Located at the core of Hilton Head Island, its 2,000 acres are nestled on three miles of sugar sand beaches.

    The saltwater lagoon system, which plays a key role in providing renewable drainage for the golf courses, is an ideal venue for boating, fishing and touring.There are bike trails throughout, 25 tennis courts, and three championship golf courses.Sub-tropical landscaping with an exotic garden atmosphere has long been the signature of the resort.

    Palmetto Dunes is separated into four distinct sections: residential, resort, marina, and Leamington Plantation. Housing accommodations include private real estate as well as vacation rental villas and condos. There are four view options: wooded, golf course, lagoon, and oceanfront. Homes range in price from $600,000 to over $6 million, making this plantation one of the island’s most luxurious. Villas or condos are priced from $160K to $3 million. These may be single level units or multi-story townhomes. Shelter Cove, surrounding the marina at the headwaters of Broad Creek, is also a part of Palmetto Dunes, and has exclusively condo-style accommodations scattered along the rim of the boat harbor.

    Consumer confidence is up, and real estate sales in Palmetto Dunes are increasing.While prices are still falling in many regions, the sale of houses is picking up on Hilton Head Island. There are a limited number of oceanfront homes and condominiums.

    The renowned Robert Trent Jones Oceanfront Course was named 2003 Golf Course of the Year in South Carolina. The Arthur Hills Course, where golfing legends Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson honed their skills as collegiate athletes, is built on a series of rolling dunes with palmetto trees lining the course. The Arthur Hills Course was ranked 2009 Course of the Year in South Carolina and is also the home of the Historic Leamington Lighthouse. The George Fazio Course, named for its famous designer, was constructed with the help of his nephew, famed architect Tom Fazio.

    The internationally-acclaimed Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center features 23 clay courts and two Nova ProBounce courts, eight of which are lighted for night play. The tennis center offers a full schedule of seasonal activities, instructional programs, and daily round robin tournaments. Tennis Resorts Online ranked the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center 5th in the World, and the junior program 3rd in the World, and the center itself 2nd in the World for Best Instructional Programs and Events.

    Shelter Cove offers charter boats and dolphin cruises. For waterfront shopping and dining, the Shelter Cove Harbour and Marina features a wide array of specialty shops, quaint bistros, fine dining establishments, and seasonal activities.

    Palmetto Dunes has two security gates operating 24 hours a day. Access into the private residential areas, as well as the resort areas, is strictly controlled.
